Here is the nomination letter:
Dear Nominating Committee,
The Middlebury Fire Department wishes to nominate Captain Paul Garrow for the "VSFA Line Officer of the Year" Award. Paul has been a member of the department for 21 years, is currently a Training Officer and is a charter member of the department’s Technical Rescue Team. This team has spent an extraordinary amount of time training locally and out of state, as well as familiarizing the rest of the department with their techniques and equipment. Paul has previously held the rank of Lieutenant, has been on the department House Committee and has served on several recent Truck Committees.
His commercial experience working with LP gas and fuel oil lends itself as a valuable resource for incidents involving such flammable materials. Paul’s enthusiasm for completing the task at hand is contagious, regardless whether it’s a fire scene, training drill or station detail. As a member of the Vermont Army National Guard, Paul brings with him his heavy truck experience, allowing him to be an important asset to the department… as well as being a very competent pump and aerial operator.
A proficient interior firefighter, Paul’s level-headed demeanor makes him a good role model for younger firefighters, and he has proven to be an excellent mentor. Paul has worked actively with the department’s Cadet Program; his son Randy joined the department through this program and his younger son, Josh is presently a cadet. Furthermore, Paul’s wife, Barbara is the department’s Secretary, making the fire service truly a family affair! In summary, Paul Garrow is a good friend to all and a respected fire officer with impressive leadership skills.
Thank you for considering this nomination.
